[New Feature] Copilot & AI Capabilities in Dynamics 365 finance and Operations

This marks my 200th blog post on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, and what better topic to discuss than the emerging revolution in the technological landscape: Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the coming posts, I aim to delve into AI features within Dynamics 365 and explore their implications.

Stay tuned as I explore these cutting-edge features and share insights through upcoming video content.

So lets start and see what capabilities we have from finance and operations perspective:

Copilot gives users access to AI capabilities that augment the application experiences and functionality of finance and operations apps.

Copilot brings a growing set of skills that help users complete various tasks. It can appear in many different user experiences. Here are some examples:

  • Sidecar – Copilot sits alongside the application as a sidecar and provides conversational support to the user. The sidecar is the primary Copilot interface in finance and operations apps. It provides a natural language chat experience that helps users work with application functionality and data. For example, the generative help and guidance with Copilot (preview) feature is provided as a sidecar.
  • Embedded – These Copilot features add intelligent capabilities to the application itself. In this way, they bring AI to the center of the application experience. For example, in the Confirmed purchase orders with changes workspace, AI capabilities that are built into the page help users understand and react to changes in confirmed purchase orders.
  • Outside – External agents help orchestrate across different apps and tasks. For example, users can use Copilot to ask questions about finance and operations data. For more information, see FAQ for finance and operations data on Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Prerequisites

To enable Copilot capabilities in finance and operations apps, you must have the following prerequisites in place:

  • You must be running version 10.0.36 or later of finance and operations apps.
  • You must have enabled the Power Platform integration in Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services. (However, you don’t have to enable dual-write for this feature.)

Key feature released with Microsoft Dynamics 365 finance and operations:

  1. (Preview) User experience for Copilot in Finance and Operations

The user experience for Copilot in Finance and Operations enables user to interact with in-app AI-powered assistance provided by Copilot across many scenarios in finance and operations apps. The user experience enables interaction with the power of large language models (LLMs) together with your business data, while respecting commitments to data security and privacy in the enterprise.

2. Generative help

Copilot provides in-app help and guidance that uses the power of generative AI to give contextual support to users. Copilot accesses the full range of public documentation to offer precise assistance and streamline the navigation though the extensive capabilities of finance and operations apps

3. Summarize purchase order changes for better decision making

Every day, businesses receive many purchase order responses (often including changes) that purchasing agents must manually manage and accept. It can take time for agents to research the relevant impact information and collaboration with other stakeholders. As a result, agents may become overwhelmed and fail to fully understand and identify the impact of changes. This can lead to suboptimal decisions and the ripple effects of changes may fail to be prevented. The procurement copilot in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management uses artificial intelligence to help prevent these issues by making purchase order changes easier to overview and manage

Other features:

  1. Collections coordinator summary

This feature displays an AI-generated summary and an option to create an AI-generated draft email on the collection’s coordinator workspace. The AI-generated summary includes information about a customer’s payment history, outstanding debt amount and revenue. An AI-generated draft email, formatted like a reminder letter, allows the collections coordinator to quickly view and edit an email before sending to customers.

2. Customer payment predictions

Organizations often find it challenging to predict when customers will pay their invoices. This lack of insight can cause the following issues:

Less accurate cash flow forecasts

Collections processes that start too late

Orders that are released to customers who might default on their payment

Customer payment predictions helps organizations predict when a customer invoice will be paid. Therefore, they can create collections strategies that help increase the likelihood that they will be paid on time.

3. Process automation

This framework comes with automation capabilities in different areas of Microsoft dynamics 365 . Examples are :

Collection automation, Vendor invoice automation, Vendor payment automation, cash flow forecast automation, etc….

This is a power full tool to optimize the customer processes.

That’s it for this blog.
